This year Camp Li-Lo-Li will celebrate its
60th anniversary and give thanks to the Lord for His faithful leading, blessing
and provision over the years. On June 29, 2013 we will be
having a day of celebration to the Lord for all He has accomplished here at
camp. Make plans now to join us for the day of thanksgiving!
In the early part of 1951, the Lord put
a burden on the heart of a young man named Mel Northrop to begin a camp work
for young people in Western New York. During the next year, Mel Northrop along
with Colin Caldwell and a number of young men from the Congress Chapel, met to
pray each week that the Lord would use them to further His work. While they prayed about the Lord’s will, they
began the search to find a suitable property for camp, but without success. In
August 1952, word came that there had been a cancellation of a campsite at
Allegheny State Park. A contract was signed and a planning committee formed to
host the first camp session of what was to ultimately become Camp Li-Lo-Li. The
first camp was from July 25-August 8, 1953 and during that session fourteen
young people were saved!
After receiving a financial gift toward
the purchase of a camp site, the next two years were spent searching for a
suitable property. Many sites were considered and rejected for a variety of
reasons until at last, the committee was led to Sluga Farm in the town of Red
House, NY. This was it! The corporation voted and the decision was unanimous. You
can read about the hand of the Lord in directing the purchase and legal acquisition
of the property in the Camp history book, “A History of Camp Li-Lo-Li: What God hath Wrought” by Mel Northrop and Clyde Tyson.
formation of the Camp Li-Lo-Li Corporation, thousands of young people have come
under the sound of God’s Word and hundreds have responded to the gospel and have
been saved after putting their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Camp
Li-Lo-Li is still owned by ten assemblies from NY, PA, OH and southern Ontario.
