Certifications
Camp has many terrific activities that can be offered during our camp sessions including horseback riding, rifle marksmanship, archery, ropes challenge course activities, boating, fishing and swimming. In order for each of these activities to be offered, we need certified instructors. We encourage our staff to pray about and consider getting certified to serve the Lord and campers through these areas of ministry to make the camp experience the best it can be!
For more information on Certification & Training, please contact Jon Benson by email at [email protected]. All training sessions are at Camp unless otherwise noted.

Archery Instructor Certification
To offer archery as an activity at Camp Li-Lo-Li requires certified instructors to open the range and safely facilitate participation. We would like every week (and weekend!) of camp to have at least one instructor available so we can offer archery for campers and staff alike. The most important qualifications to be an instructor are interest and a desire to help others enjoy archery safely. If that sounds like YOU, here’s what you need to do:
Teaching archery at Camp Li-Lo-Li requires a USA Archery Level I (or higher) instructor certification. The stated purpose of the Level I certification is, “To introduce how to teach archery to a new instructor, who has most likely never shot before.” Scope of training includes safety, range setup and operation, basic equipment setup and inspection, and teaching the basic steps of shooting. The certification process is a “blended” course: the first part is online instruction through the USA Archery website and the second part is the Practical Course consisting of 4-5 hours of hands-on instruction at the archery range at camp. This nationally recognized course will enable you to serve as an archery instructor at camp and elsewhere and is open to anyone 15 years of age or older. To open the archery range at camp you must possess a current USA Archery instructor certification and be at least 18 years of age, but younger instructors may still participate under the supervision of the instructor who opens the range.
You can register at any time to complete the online portion of the course. Details are available at https://www.usarchery.org/coaches/become-a-coach/level-1-instructor-certification .
Mark White will be teaching the Practical Course at camp on Saturday, June 1 as part of the Staff Certification Weekend. Please email Mark at [email protected] as soon as possible to let him know that you are seeking certification this year and will need the Practical Course. If you would like to be certified but are unable to attend the practical course on June 1 Mark will work with you to provide another opportunity.
The cost of the online course is $40 per person. The Practical Course is offered at no charge to people obtaining their certification to serve at Camp Li-Lo-Li. Once completed the certification is good for 3 years and subsequent renewal is all done online through USA Archery (no need to attend a course at camp again).
Please consider serving at camp as an archery instructor, especially if the week(s) you are planning to support as staff don’t already have an archery instructor available. Archery is a great camp activity and camp is often the only place people have access to it. YOU can be the person who helps to make that happen!
Ropes Challenge Course / Zip Line Training
Friday, May 31 to Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Camp has a wide array of challenge course activities. Up in the woods behind the caboose, there are multiple team-building low ropes activities. We need leaders to demonstrate and help run these activities.
In that same area we have several high ropes activities that involve participants being properly harnessed & belayed for more challenging activities.
At the other end of camp, we have a climbing tower which includes an indoor climbing wall with various color-coded climbing levels. This also involves harnessing & belaying.
The most extensive activity is the zip-line which starts at the climbing tower and goes to several transfer points. This requires multiple staff with varying degrees of experience.
Those opening / leading Challenge Course activities will need to be certified in CPR/First Aid.
Please consider serving at camp as a Challenge Course facilitator! These are great activities that campers will remember and may not experience elsewhere.
Challenge Course training is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Training will involve learning proper harnessing techniques, belaying each other, problem solving skills and logging hours of experience. Beginners and experienced instructors are welcome. Friday night will involve basic harnessing and belaying techniques at the climbing wall, followed by more in-depth training throughout the day on Saturday.
Please contact Dave Larter directly at [email protected] for more information.
Wrangler in Training (WIT)
WIT will be during our Pre-Teen 2 session (July 14-20, 2024). If you are interested, please contact Jackie Gefell at [email protected].
If you plan to participate, you will need to complete a staff application selecting the Wranger-in-Training for the position you are applying and Pre-Teen 2 as the session.
You must be at least 15 years old to participate in the WIT program.
Riflery
Staff who will open or manage the rifle range during summer camps must possess NRA certification.
Participants must be 15 years old for training and 18 years old to open the range. Please contact our riflery director, Dan Lee, at (585) 328-7189 for more information regarding the NRA certification.
