We had talked about this for a while and it finally happened! This past week saw our first ever PIT Crew week with seven great participants. We ran the program alongside Teen 1 this year but our goal is to have it as a stand alone program in the future. PIT stands for Partners in Transformation and is open to campers who are no longer eligible to go to Teen Camp. Our plan now is to have it right after the college semester ends in the spring and before our “Crew” get too busy with summer activities – perhaps around the second or third week of June each year. Watch for more information on our website and in our brochures!
Our Teen 1 program included an Olympic theme this year and our PIT Crew were asked to carry the Olympic torch during the opening ceremonies. That was an exciting start to a great week! The PIT program consisted of three main areas: Bible study, service projects around camp and some great fun activities.
Each day we met together to open God’s word and to study an Emmaus Course as a group. This year we took up the course, I’ll Take the High Road. There were some challenging lessons on knowing and doing God’s will, sharing our faith and dealing with adversity in our lives. We also had opportunity to pray with and for each other. It was a great time of blessing
Our main work project this week was the renovation and re-painting of the basketball chain link fences. These fences are on the main road on the way into camp and are seen by campers and parents as they arrive in camp. They now have a completely new look! There is still some work required on the fence at the back of the basketball court, but this was a great start. There was also some landscaping work done and one morning they filled close to 1000 water balloons to assist the Teen 1 program!
When they weren’t in Bible study or participating in service projects, we had some great activities lined up for the group. They were able to ascend the climbing wall (where all of our ladies successfully reached the top!), work together to complete Jacob’s ladder and ride the zipline as a pod. The last day of camp was spent on the water as they took a canoe trip with Larry Thompson and Lavinia Curletta down the Allegheny River!
We are looking for more exciting PIT Crew adventures next year! Watch this space…
